SOUNDTRACK: Paano Ba Ang Magmahal? (The Breakup Playlist)

Gustong gusto ko 'tong kanta na 'to, ang sarap n'yang pakinggan.
"Paano Ba Ang Magmahal" was written by the country's Pop-Rock Princess, Yeng Constantino and Jonathan Manalo. It was originally performed and first recorded by Erik Santos and Liezel Garcia for the TV Series, "A Beautiful Affair" in 2012. Sarah Geronimo and Piolo Pascual recorded the song for their upcoming movie "The Breakup Playlist."
Yes!
Good job, Yeng, Sarah & Piolo.

REVIEW: Reo Brothers debut album hits local radio stations.

Album: REO Brothers from Tacloban
Artist: REO Brothers
Genre: OPM, Disco, Rock
Record Label: Star Record
Year: 2015

REO Brothers composed of Otic Siblings, Reno, Raymart, RJ and Ralph released their self-titled debut album under Star Records last January 2015.

Before I start, I would like to praise REO brothers for not giving up, obviously they came from Tacloban, the band was already founded back when Typhoon Yolanda hit and almost destroyed the whole City. Popular Pinoy Tag-line 'Bagyo ka lang, Pinoy kami' proven powerful by the band, 'cause instead of giving up, they pursued their dreams and now they're already making their way to stardom.

Okay, let's go to the album. Another obvious thing, legendary band, the Beatles influenced these kids as you can see on the cover of the album, from the trademark font-style to the famous Abbey road. It's okay to do it, seems like their paying tribute to the band, but on the other side, this can cause bashing from other People, and a 'copycat' trademark if they'll still use the 'Beatles' theme on their next records.
This band has a potential star status in the country, so much better if they'll build their own trademark which isn't hard for them to do.

I'll talk about the original songs written by Mr. Vehnee Saturno first.

'Ako'y Tinamaan' is a perfect jam when you're driving. The beat, the catchy tune and the easy to memorize lyrics will easily change your mood, from bad to good, especially when the traffic is getting so so wrong! And I think, that's the reason why this song is being played so many times on local radio stations.

Watch the Kilig-music video of the lead single 'Ako'y Tinamaan.'

'O Bakit?' all I can say is this song is making me think what it would feel like living with 70's music, well, I guess, it's really cool.

Let's go to the revivals,

'Manila' an ode to Manila hit song by the 70's Disco band Hotdog. I had to play the Hotdog's version on Youtube to see if there're any differences between the two, of course the voice is already given, but the Band didn't gave different flavor to the song. Just wanna point out, the blending of their voices on the chorus part sounds really good.

'Pinoy Ako' Popular song from the Reality show 'Pinoy Big Brother' originally recorded by Orange&Lemons. Opposite to Manila, this one is different from the original version, it's more upbeat and a bit faster than original. Hope this version will be used on upcoming season of PBB.

'Awitin Mo, Isasayaw Ko' a disco classic from VST & Co. The band gave more pop-rock vocals to this song, but the disco vibe is still there. It's like a combination of 70's BeeGees and 2000's The Click 5.

This album is one of the best OPM albums this year so far. To REO Brothers, congrats, claim the 'Best New Group/Band' award! I appreciate Star Records for producing new talents like this band, I'm looking forward for more.

What do I expect to their next record? I'm expecting the REO Brothers from Tacloban to be The REO Brothers. Don't be the next Beatles, be the first REO Brothers. Wish that when I see their next album, the cover art won't make me think of the Beatles or any other artists/bands anymore. About the genre, be it, continue showing the beauty of Manila Sound. It's okay to revive songs again, but I'm looking forward for more new songs.

Though I was a little disappointed to the theme of the album cover, over-all, it's an awesome album.

SOUNDS ON: Wings by Birdy

Title: Wings
Singer: Birdy
Album: Fire Within
Year: 2013
Genre: Indie Folk
Record Label: Hospital Records

Written by Birdy and One Republic front man, Ryan Tedder. 'Wings' is the lead single from Birdy's second studio album 'Fire Within.' The song received popularity in some countries such as Australia, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland where the song received gold certifications. It also reached #1 in Ireland.

I still remember the day when I first heard this song, it was on my classmate's house. We were watching music videos on Channel V when the video of this song appeared. I thought it was an old song/music video cause it's really different from today's music videos, it was dark and sad plus the mansion party scenes that looks so vintage, yeah. When I got home, I googled the song, then I found out that it was new, and I was amazed.
It became my favorite song, most played song on my music player. I've been in a relationship, but it went wrong, so every time I play this song it really helps me to let my tears fall. Argggg. Now, I already moved on but I still love this song. I'm lovin' the memories. Thank you, Birdy. Haha.

SOUNDTRACK: Flashlight (from Pitch Perfect 2)

Title: Flashlight
Singer: Jessie J.
Movie: Pitch Perfect 2
Genre: Pop
Year: 2015

Isn't it amazing when two of 2014's biggest Musical acts joined together to write an amazing song for Pitch Perfect 2? Chandelier & Stay With Me hit makers, Sia Furler and Sam Smith wrote 'Flashlight' together with Christian Guzman and Jason Moore. This song is now certified gold in Australia.

Jessie J. did an amazing job with this song but I prefer the version of Barden Bellas that was shown in the movie. The song is very uplifting and Inspiring, on the other side, we can dedicate this song to our Friends, Parents, Partners or to anyone we consider as Flashlight/s of our lives.

One of the best songs of 2007! This song is a potential couple theme song, and I think that's the reason why it became popular in the country back then.

REWIND: Don't Let Me Get Me by P!nk

Title: Don't Let Me Get Me
Singer: P!nk
Album: Missundaztood
Year: 2002
Record Label: Arista Records

Written by P!nk and American songwriter, record producer Dallas Austin (Lady Gaga, Gwen Stefani & Michael Jackson) Don't Let Me Get Me, the second single from P!nk's second studio album made it to the top ten in the UK & US Charts.

At first, it was my elder sister's favorite song to play on our VCD Player before it became mine. She was on her last years on Gradeschool when this song hit the radio stations in the Philippines. Back then, Britney Spears was the only foreign female singer I know, and what made me interested to know about P!nk and the PopCulture is the lyrics "Tired of being compared to damn Britney Spears, she's so pretty, that just ain't me." are they rivals or what? Maybe she's just hating herself.... or it's just a song so I don't mind it anymore. All I know is because of this song, I became a fan of my girl, P!nk. Love this song. ☺

This song reminds me of my early years in this World. I was 5 years old when this song came out and it remain popular for years. Back when I was on 3rd grade, I used to hear this song on some Karaoke session and I was like "I love this song" and eventually it became one of my favorite songs of all-time. 13 years after, Complicated is still a Karaoke favorite piece, and still one of the most known songs of 21st century. A perfect track to define 2000's kid's Childhood.
